Bio: Robert G. Lee is Associate Professor of American Studies at Brown University where he teaches courses on Asian Americans, Transpacific Studies, and Race. He is author of Orientals, Asian Americans and Popular Culture (Temple 1999) and is working on Inventing Chinese Americans a book which looks at the worlds of American Chinese workingmen, women and young people from 1850 to 1950.

Abstract: This presentation looks at the photo-album assembled by an American born Chinese woman in 1924 to consider questions of identity, authorship and resistance to racial stereotypes can be understood through the close examination of the personal photo-album.
