The American Studies Programme is having an exciting new course on offer: The American City (AMER2015). The course will take students through the pulses of New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, New Orleans, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, and examine various films related to the historical, racial, and cultural dynamics of these cities. Through film analysis as well as appreciation of pieces of music, literature, art, and photography, students will learn how the American city envisions itself as a new modern nation on the global stage. The course will also draw comparisons to Hong Kong to understand the relationship between our city and some of the greatest as well as the "baddest" American metropolises that continue to define our time. |
